Close your eyes and imagine this. You are living your dream life – successful television career, happy marriage, about to give birth to your first child conceived through IVF, when during a routine obstetrician appointment you receive the news that you have Stage 3 Breast Cancer and told your baby must be induced tomorrow so that cancer treatment can start immediately.
In my interview with Sally Obermeder, I described her as ‘one gutsy chick’ and truer words were never spoken! Sally lights up a room with her gorgeous smile, vibrant attitude and warmth. Not only does she glow with health, but her story of surviving cancer, changing careers mid-stream, starting a new business, becoming an author and most importantly a mum, will not fail to inspire you.
We kicked off our chat drinking Sally’s delicious Original Skinny smoothie and toasted the success of her new book ‘Super Green Smoothies’, co-written with her sister Maha Koraiem. Can green smoothies ever be truly delicious, I hear you say? Given that Sally and Maha ethos is ‘If it’s not yum, it’s not going in the book’ that is an overwhelming yes. Having concocted my own green smoothies over the years I was impressed and inspired by her adding ingredients like fresh mint leaves and passionfruit – there’s even a chocolate and coffee smoothie (all healthy of course!). Learn here how Sally rebuilt her body that had been ravaged by 8 months of the strongest chemotherapy available by adopting her green smoothie lifestyle (losing 15 kilos in the process).
In today’s clip, Sally shares her revelation moment when she decided to leave her well-paid career in finance (yes, she still loves a spreadsheet!) to start from scratch trying to break into television, and how her motto of “be your own cheerleader” rose above the voices of the naysayers until she got her breakthrough moment.
I loved spending time with this brave, fun, gorgeous woman and I know you will too.
