Who believes in New Year’s resolutions? Do they actually work? And how committed are we when pronouncements are made in haste that one night of the year?
The overriding sense I get is that whatever initial commitment we make to our NY’s resolutions, we rarely follow through. Our focus tends to wane as the early months disappear behind us. One would have to ask… do we actually need them?
If you’ve been following our journey on Balance, you’d know that setting personal goals, whether they’re big or small, is an important part of creating the future you want. So maybe this IS the perfect time to sit down and think about all the areas in your life that you want to give a little bit more attention to over the coming year… without the champagne fuzz!
Are you happy in your current relationship? Is your job still satisfying you? Does your house still meet your needs – perhaps it needs re-arranging or a good spring clean? How are your finances? And, importantly, are you finding time just for yourself?
If there’s one thing I have learnt through listening our community, it’s that we don’t prioritise ourselves enough… we rarely put ourselves near the top of our to-do list.
As we look ahead and wonder what the universe has in store for us in 2018, it’s the perfect time to take five or 10 minutes for some self-reflection, to sit somewhere quiet with a journal or notepad and consider all the different areas in your life that make you who you are. Really feel in your heart the things that you may be neglecting and be mindful to note them down. Think about the areas that you have got right and that bring you great happiness. Then write down some personal goals that you know will help you in your journey to finding inner happiness.
Gold Medal Olympian Natalie Cook, who is one of our Balance coaches, has enjoyed great success in her career having decided exactly what she wanted and becoming incredibly focused and committing to achieving it with every part of her being. I’ve never known anyone like Nat – she has this energetic enthusiasm and drive which is captivating. So much so, you can’t help but sit back and say, “I want what she’s on!”
Perhaps Natalie’s Goal Setting program through Balance might be something that can help you to achieve your goals. It’s an exciting 30-day journey with Nat that will really challenge your way of thinking. It’s brilliant and great fun!
Whether you’re into New Year’s resolutions or not, this is your moment to push yourself up to the top of the pile and really think about what you want for the future.
