As host of Australia’s leading forum for ideas, Jenny Brockie has in-depth insight on issues that impact on a local, national and global stage.
In this first video, Deborah asks Jenny about the issues that concern her most as an Australian.
Jenny believes that issues surround “the political process (is one) and how disconnected people feel from their major party politicians.”
“I think if people lose faith in politics and their elected representatives it doesn’t all go well for our future,” she said.
“How do we as a community create a sense again that those offices and those roles are important and worthy of respect?”
Deborah and Jenny then move onto the issues surrounding the representation of women in our society where Jenny gives an overall positive outlook on women’s issues but comments on double standards and under-representation.
“I think that women are still held to a different standard, on a whole range of things,” she said.
“I’m (also) concerned about that fact that there are still great pockets in the community where women are under-represented, huge numbers of them, in professions, in trades, in a whole range of things where the women want to be,” said Jenny.
How Jenny Deals with Personal Challenges
Deborah then asks Jenny how she deals with personal issues in her life and the tactics she employs to help her cope with challenging times.
Jenny takes Deborah back to a particularly “horrible” time in her life.
It was at this time when Jenny was surrounded by “a lot of loss and sadness” that a friend posed a life changing question.
“What makes you happy apart from loved ones?”
While her initial response was “nothing”, Jenny takes Deborah through the process of discovering the answer to this question and how it has become a useful tool for managing difficult times.
“I’m not always good at it,” said Jenny.
“There are times I really struggle and feel really overloaded and overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I have to do,” she said.
“Don’t think I’ve got it sorted by any means, just talk to my daughter she’ll tell you,” said Jenny.
“She’ll watch this and laugh her head off,” said Jenny.
