In addition to giving us life; water has been used over time for many sacred healing rituals and ceremonies. Mystics throughout the ages have and utilised the energetic properties of water. There are so many ways that water can bring a sense of peace and calm to your life. Whether it is a warm shower or just simply looking at the waves crashing onto the shore – once you feel a connection with water it can nourish your mind, body and soul.
Water can also be an essential ingredient in your spiritual practice. Metaphysically it clears, nurtures and sustains all that it touches. It is powerful and when you know how to enjoy its energetic essence then it will enrich your every day spiritual practice. Here are four ideas that you can use to get started on working metaphysically with the power of water.
Four spiritual practices for your everyday life
Clearing: Water has the capacity to receive, hold and clear the energy that surrounds it. It is a natural clearer of energy as it literally washes away the negativity from the surrounding environment. That is why I use water in any clearing I am doing in my own home, office or and business environment. To create your own clearing ritual simply fill a bowl with water. Place the bowl in the area you wish to cleanse. Light a candle and perhaps add some salt to the bowl of water. State an intention of “Thank you for clearing this space” and know that as the candle burns, the water will absorb and clear any negative energy that may be in the area. Allow at least one hour of candle light for this process and when complete, return the water to the earth by pouring it into the ground outside. Know that the earth will use its power to transmute the energy to pure compassion and love.
Cleansing: The easiest way to use water to cleanse your body, mind and aura is in the shower. As the water cascades down over your body, allow yourself to visualise the water clearing away any worries, fears, stress or tension that you may be feeling. Know that as it runs down over your body it is washing away the feelings and again returning them to the earth. You can step out of the shower knowing that you have both a clean body and aura at the same time.
Hydration Happiness: Drinking enough water to maintain your body’s health is also a very important spiritual practice. When you are well hydrated then your body will function better and your mind will be clearer. A well hydrated body also improves your mood. And the better you feel, the more positive your energy will be. When you are feeling more positive your chakras and meridian points are more open, allowing an easier flow of Chi energy throughout your energetic system. This also maximizes your potential to access your intuition. So drinking water is a great way to increase your intuition and access to the non physical world.
Stillness: ‘The quieter you become the more you can hear.’ – Ram Dass
Finding moments of stillness is not a luxury but a necessity for peace of mind and good mental health. Stillness is also essential when you are developing your spirituality and intuition. Whether you are looking to master the art of meditation or increase your psychic ability – using water as a frame of reflection is powerful. When you take the time to look at the calm waters of a shimmering lake, or simply gaze at a bowl of water– the process of observing the stillness immediately connects you to your own inner sense of stillness. To get started with this process why not try for the next 7 days to take 5 minutes each day to gaze into a bowl of still water.
Once you have a bowl of water before you, allow yourself to be completely aware of the stillness of the water. Then just gently invite your mind to feel still just like the water before you. Please do not be concerned if at first your mind wanders. That is to be expected. Just gently bring your awareness back to the stillness of the water. At the end of the 5 minutes, take a deep breath and really notice how your body has become more relaxed.
The more you work with the power of water the greater connection you will feel to your own sense of spirituality. There are many more ideas and practices. Every person has their own style. I am encouraging you to find your own way to work with water and really enjoy all that it can offer your everyday life.
