Sex and the City author Candance Bushnell was just eight years old when she set her mind on a career as a novelist, so the question was never what to do but how to do it.
“I knew what I wanted to do and, knowing that, it really gave me the strength to carry on through some really adverse times,” she says.
After being knocked back by publishers and told that “no-one wanted to hear about the life of a 20-year-old girl”, Candace learnt that the key to pursuing your dream is to never give up.
She goes on to explain that she never had any mentors or career support and says her family are still surprised she became a writer.
Candace took up writing at the age of 19 but it wasn’t until she was 36 that her Sex and the City series was picked up. In this next video she talks about her journey to becoming an internationally recognised author.
