Champion of breakfasts: Tips from the muesli queen

October 26, 2013 by Balance Team

Founder of muesli giant Carman’s Kitchen Carolyn Creswell sat down to talk business with Deborah Hutton and gave us some valuable advice on how to start and sustain a successful business.

“It’s all very personal with how we interacted with people. It was just a gut feeling on how I would like to be treated,” Carolyn says. “It’s just making each decision each time and saying how do we feel about that.”

By constantly reflecting and staying true to the brand, Carman’s Kitchen was able to gain a huge following and Carolyn said they thanked everyone along the way for their support.

“How do we incorporate what we do and say that’s a part of the brand? I never imagined that I was building a brand. I was just selling muesli.”

When it came to mentors, Carolyn says she had many and asked for a lot of advice when she needed it. But at the end of the day she only implemented what she had learnt when it was necessary.

As for hitting sales targets, Carolyn says “you are better off being upfront and frank about it”. Know which product that is selling the most and be honest with yourself.

Amazing! This blog looks just like my old one! It’s on a completely different subject but it has
pretty much the same page layout and design.
    Wonderful choice of colors!

Confidence

This article originally appeared in Virgin Voyeur Magazine. I believe we all have capabilities beyond what we give ourselves credit, so why do we often mark ourselves down in the company of others who we perceive as being smarter and more successful than us? Perhaps it’s just human nature but where does our self-doubt stem […]
