Why I’m throwing myself into my Renovation Rookie project
It’s been a while since I’ve been on camera, because I’ve had a tough time losing Billy.
So I’m focusing my attention now on renovating my house and creating a new fresh space for me.
Here’s where I’m up to:
This is a major renovation and I’ve got in my mind what I want it to look like.
Essentially I’ve been happy with the floor plan for quite some time but when you put the DA (Development Approval) in, one of the things you have to be specific about and confirm is the windows and exactly where they go.
That’s taken so much longer than I thought it was going to!
It’s been good to live in the house for a while and only a couple of weeks ago I was changing windows. I can’t stress enough the importance of living in the house before you renovate.
But I finally have the windows sorted and I’m just finalising a few other reports and submitting the DA.
However, I’ve also been talking to my neighbours about the project and I’ve been warned that council took six months to approve a picket fence so I might be waiting a long time!
In the meantime, I’ve decided that it would be a good idea to sit down with all my neighbours (I have four) and take them through the design and the drawings and make sure they are comfortable with it.
If I can, I’m going to get some comments from them and attach them to the DA because the greatest opposition and potential time delay you’ll have to any development is when people who are directly affected by the project object.
I’ve got lovely neighbours so I don’t want to build a building that impacts them in any way. So I want to make sure they are included in the discussion and they are on board.
