The first word that comes to mind when I think of Scarlett Vespa is exuberance. Her high energy and sparkling personality is infectious and resonates in every facet of her life.

Scarlett is a Human Brand Futurist (I had to look that up). Through her brand, Mrs V, she helps people create a life shift and build a successful, sustainable future. But Scarlett is not just a brand expert, she is a multi-talented entrepreneur with diverse expertise – from broadcasting expert, producer, advertising guru, website designer, digital and social media expert and founder of media channel, Mrs V Society. (She’s also a talented artist – Scarlett sketched all the illustrations shown on her website and social media channels).

But Scarlett’s success has not come easily – after experiencing her own life shift when Scarlett says she “lost everything”, she reinvented herself and is taking her knowledge and lessons from her own life-changing experience to help people redefine their purpose and embrace a successful future at any age.

I love Scarlett’s style which is a mix of spirited and spiritual. Her statement-making glasses and quirky hats reflect her joyful and confident side, yet there is a relaxed feel to her style that reflects her spirituality and deep connection to her personal self.

Scarlett is the epitome of embracing life at any age and here she shares her view on a life of style over 50.

How would you describe your personal style?

I love to feel comfortable, number one. Another rule is ‘cut’, I’ve never had a streamlined body and cut is everything, I believe it’s better to buy quality verses what’s trending.

I have just returned from a trip to the US and had a colour intervention from a colour stylist and it has changed the way I dress now. I have always loved fashion and believe it’s an important way to express yourself personally and professionally. Black has always been my go to and nothing like a well cut jacket to say to a person that edge.  My go to brands are Scanlon and Theodore, Bassike, Zimmerman, KITX (latest fav) and Lee Matthews.

Whose style do you admire and why?

I love Cate Blanchetts – she always looks graceful and elegant. Tinda Swinton, I am always eager to see what she has on at Red Carpets, she wears her fashion, it doesn’t wear her. She doesn’t hide behind her clothes, she uses it illustrate the her unique persona.  Sarah Jessica Parker is my favourite and has been for along time since ‘Sex in the City’. Her ability to throw a string of pearls on top of her pyjamas, she wore this flower coat on an episode that I spent ages trying to find – never managed to find it 🙁 Sarah still wears her timeless style beautifully.

How do you think your style has evolved over time?

My style was always a bit quirky and pretty, I think as I’ve got older I look for pieces that are more subtle. My recent colour intervention has me going from corporate edgy to Divine Goddess – I believe that all women should aspire to this. When I work with women’s personal brand, I find more and more it’s about finding what makes you feel powerful, beautiful and confident.

What are the three wardrobe essentials you can’t live without?

My black Yoga pants, working from home must haves. My KITX teal velvet jacket (recent can’t live without), my fluffy Free People jumper and my collection of James Pearse v-neck T-shirts. I also love my Play Lucy Folk pearl and rose gold hoop earrings.

What is your go-to outfit for daytime?

I love a part of black pants or jeans with a shirt or silk cami and cardigan.

And evening?

Evening I just put on a bit of heel and my jacket is velvet either my teal or navy is the favourite.

What advice would you give for women over 40 when it comes to style?

When we reach 40 we begin to really feel comfortable in ourselves and more confident on one level, but then on another level we get fearful around being invisible as a woman.  Fashion then becomes sometimes difficult as we change and it can also become liberating. I only advise women to keep checking to see how they feel when choose their wardrobe for the day. Are they wearing it to hide or to express themselves and that is wear I say use black as an accent so you can use colour to enhance you statement. Finally wear a colour that make your eyes pop – a good sign it’s the right fit!

Describe your perfect day off.

Morning Pancakes with my gorgeous husband of 13 years, coffee at my fav cafe, a walk along the Glebe shores and hanging out at home with ‘no plans’.
