Birthdays ending with a zero almost always make us stop, look back, look forward, to the sides and back again.
It’s like crossing a busy intersection. The older we get, depending on our circumstances, we can cross and move forwards or we stay stuck on the same side with the memories and dreams, waiting for the right time to cross but growing ever impatient and unsatisfied the longer we stay.
One person who has never hesitated to cross and who is always ready to venture into a new adventure is our fearless managing partner for Balance, Sonya Keenan.
This week Sonya turns 50 and will be crossing that intersection with purpose, determination and an anticipation that the best things are still to come.
If you’re lucky enough to know Sonya, like we do here at Balance, you will know she is one of the most inspirational, positive people you could meet.
She’s had more than her fair share of challenges but has always bounced back, learnt from them and become better and stronger than before.
As a result, she has become unquestionably smart, impossibly determined and unshakable in her decision to live her best life.
This little “project” she started with Deborah is only possible thanks to her commitment, her ability to learn and adapt and just get “shit done”. The woman behind the camera is Sonya, the woman balancing the books is Sonya and when there is a problem, it’s usually Sonya who fixes it.
Sonya is also living proof that “Balance” can change a person’s life. Working on this project day and night really does make you want to be better and there’s no question Sonya has taken the advice and inspiration of our guests to heart.
She is brave like Margie Warrell. Is living her passion and purpose thanks to Jack Delosa, has rediscovered and reinvented herself with Dain Heer and used her own wisdom and belief to make things happen with Katrina Cavanough.
We’re sharing her story with you this week, in the hope that it gives you the inspiration to be like Sonya, to embrace being 50 and the change it brings.
She’s not a celebrity, she isn’t famous, she doesn’t live in a million dollar property, she wants to keep fit and lose weight but doesn’t always succeed, she’s had a corporate career, a business and a boat, has won and she has lost … and she is living proof that none of that matters.
What matters is that you love what you do, do what you love and never, ever give up. That you’re generous and kind to those who deserve it. That you don’t give away your power to people who want to see you fail and that you continue to learn and grow.
This week we’ll be featuring some of Sonya’s favourite interviews, the advice she’s taken to heart including;
