FROCKNET ‘WOMEN OF STYLE’ – JENNA LYONS

The fashion world has gone into a style-spin with the recent news of Jenna Lyons’ exit as President and Executive Creative Director of J. Crew, and 26 years in total with the company.

With her tall, lanky frame topped off with nerdy glasses and usually signature low bun, Lyons was largely responsible for turning J. Crew from a staid and boring ‘preppy-style’ retailer into a respected and fashion-forward brand. Lyons has been the ‘face’ of J. Crew since 2003 when the new Chief Executive Mickey Drexler hand-picked her from the then design team.

Lyon’s ability to weave J. Crew’s basics with high-end pieces and turn them into wearable ‘works of art’ catapulted her into style icon status – and I’m sure there she will firmly remain.

A floor-length marabou feathered skirt paired with a white cotton shirt – she killed it.  Cargo pants and sequins – who knew? Pink silk taffeta paired with a denim button-down shirt. Genius. A denim jacket to the Met Gala bal.  Bien sur.

With J. Crew’s profits in decline the past few years, Lyons’ departure from the company was not unexpected.

In a public statement, J. Crew Chief Executive Drexler said “Jenna and I got together and we both agreed it was time for a change. That being said, she’s got plans to do other things. It’s been a great run. There’s a lot of mutual respect between Jenna and me.”

Can’t wait to see what this style artisan has in store for the future.
