The styles may be radically different, but the one common thread running amongst the fashions of over-40 celebrities at this year’s Golden Globes, was that of confidence and feeling comfortable in their skin.
(Though the under-40 celebs were stunning also – Lady Gaga’s periwinkle blue custom Valentino will forever remain fixed an a iconic style moment).
The A-list celebrities must have all received the memo that glamour was back as there was a hefty dose of sequins, chiffons, capes and feathers on the red carpet.
Lucy Lui and Glenn Close (Armani Privé) donned capes, Nicole Kidman (Michael Kors), Regina King and Thandie Newton were in head to sequins and Heidi Klum and Molly Sims chose pretty florals.
Alison Janey, Melissa McCarthy and Catherine Zeta Jones opted for bold colours whilst Julianne Moore and Jamie Lee Curtis chose classic white and Charlize Theron (Christian Dior Couture) and Rachel Weisz chose an ever-elegant monochromatic palette.
Others showed off toned figures showed them off in slinky gowns – Amy Adams in a gorgeous Calvin Klein teal frock and Taraji P Henson in slinky forrest-green velvet.
For me, the highlight of the red carpet was Julia Roberts in Stella McCartney tailored black trousers and a flowing champagne tulle top with delicate rhinestone detailing underneath. Her screen-siren hair and glowing makeup were perfection.
