In May 2014, The Today Show newsreader Georgie Gardner shocked fans when she announced she was leaving the show after seven years. Circling were the rumours and subsequent backlash, but in this interview with Deborah Hutton, Georgie explains the decision to change the focus in her life and how she’s found a new sense of balance.
The deciding factor? “It was family and I know that potentially sounds a bit twee, but it really was,” said Georgie.
“I had seven absolutely fantastic years there. Loved, really loved it and learnt a lot, had some phenomenal experiences,” said Georgie.
“(But) I decided that my kids were coming to an age where they needed my full attention,” said Georgie.
“I could see that things were starting to get more complicated in their lives, insofar as afterschool activities, homework, social relationships, friendships, all those sorts of things, this whole social media world,” she said.
“(And) I want to be really tuned into that,” said Georgie.
