The seventh and uppermost chakra in the chakra system is the crown chakra. At first glance, it might sound similar to the third eye chakra because it is about thinking, understanding, learning and knowledge. However, the crown chakra takes it a level higher. This energy centre is about self-realisation, trust, the Universal Consciousness, God (however you perceive this), spirituality, and a connection to the divine. In order to have a healthy, balanced and open crown chakra, all six of your other chakras need to be balanced and unblocked. As such, a healthy crown chakra denotes someone who is connected with him/herself and the divine: someone who is at one with all that is.
Problems, such as weakness or avoidance, in these areas can suggest a deficient crown chakra. These problems also include excesses in the lower chakras. If you have a deficiency or lack in the crown chakra then it is likely that you will be apathetic. You might even be overly materialistic and greedy. Your behaviour will display a tendency to dominate those around you. People who have a crown chakra deficiency can also battle with learning problems. In addition, your thoughts will tend to be rigid, narrow and even cynical. You will have a strong belief in your own limitations, as well as the limitations around you.
This cynicism often reveals itself as ridiculing spirituality. Your narrow mindedness will make it challenging for you to learn about, let alone accept, views and beliefs that differ from your own. You will find yourself closed off to spirituality as well as the possibility that existence extends beyond what you can perceive with your five senses. This means that you might even be operating on unexamined beliefs. Other people will probably see you as a ‘know it all’, to the extent that you come across as someone who would rather be correct than happy.
As such, a deficiency in the crown chakra is associated with the egotist archetype. Egotists believe that they are carried through life by their efforts alone. If you are egocentric, then you identify yourself in terms of what you do, not who you are. Therefore, your psychological wellbeing depends to a great extent on your material success. You value materialism and logic, but when you discover that this is not sufficiently meaningful, you don’t have the inner resources that you need to attain more from life.
Balancing the crown chakra is very important for the overall good of your entire chakra system. The colour violet is associated with the crown chakra and has healing powers when introduced into your everyday life. Practices that are particularly effective in healing a deficient crown chakra include meditation, following your dreams and inspirations, and trying to re-establish a spiritual connection in your life.
