How many of you have ever experienced a river cruise in Europe? Has it been on your bucket list but sits well down the page as a “maybe one day”? Well perhaps I might give you a great reason to pack your bags and come join me in August next year…
Some of you might remember I was the ‘Godmother’ of a brand new river cruise ship – cutting the ribbon and launching the Avalon Illumination on the Danube in Vienna last year. Having never stepped foot on a river cruise ship before I was obviously very curious about the experience. I’d heard great things, especially from friends who have become completely addicted to how easy and relaxed the travel journey is. Can I tell you, I loved every minute of it and can see why this way of travel is becoming increasingly popular.
On my return last year, I had an idea that I wanted to create a special one-off river cruise bringing together all of our loyal followers who love what we do here with BalanceBDH and curate a unique offering that focuses on all my favourite things, food, wine and wellness. Doesn’t that perfectly sum up balance?
I’m incredibly excited to announce it is actually happening! We are taking an entire ship for an 11 day journey, starting in PARIS and finishing in CANNES, travelling down the Rhone exploring all there is to see between Burgundy and Provence, and I want you to come with me.
BalanceBDH is all about connecting with trusted experts and tapping into people who have a greater insight around the important things in life. I mentioned food, wine and wellness so I thought let’s bring along a couple of my favourite coaches to help us get the most out of the trip.
Beginning with wellness, I have asked along one of my favourite BalanceBDH life coaches, Lyndall Mitchell, who’ll help us start the day on the right foot, with different morning rituals on the top deck, from meditations to stretching and yoga. I’ve also asked her to seek out any Spas worthy of a visit… being Founder of Aurora Spas in Australia she’ll know a thing or two. Lyndall is also one of my oldest friends and her presence on board will add something very special to the trip.
As the route takes us through one of the most important wine regions of the world, Burgundy, I thought I’d invite my very fun friend Nick Stock, who is one of Australia’s most respected and prolific wine critics to join us. Nick is a wine expert and an award-winning author, who pumps out the SMH and AGE Wine Guides annually… so can definitely help add some guidance from one drop to another.
The ship only takes about 120 people, which gives a really lovely feeling that you’re among friends and not part of some great herd of people. This trip is open to anyone, it’s not necessarily just for women because we are all searching for ways to enjoy better life balance. Just imagine shopping in Paris for a few days, floating down the Rhone, green smoothies in the morning, exploring the ancient villages, discovering gourmet and spa regions of France – amazing wines, dining on fabulous food and ending up in the south of France…from there you could swing down to St Tropez, a few days in Nice, Cannes and just soak up the beauty of the French coast in summer.
Right now, I’m channelling my inner cruise director ‘Julie from The Love Boat’. Maybe not the hair but definitely the clipboard, the smile and the “welcome aboard” 🙂
