Carolyn Creswell, the founder of Carman’s Kitchen, has come a long way since the day she bought her previous employer’s muesli business for $1000 at the age of 18.
“It was exciting and it was just that sense of ‘Wow, I can do this’. Everyone in life has opportunities that come their way and you have a choice of saying ‘I’m going to give that a go and grab it’ or say ‘Oh that’s all too hard’,” Carolyn says.
“The worst that could happen was that I would lose my $1000.”
Twenty years later, Carman’s now exports to over 32 countries. While expanding her business over the years, Carolyn had no mentor to guide her and she instead learnt what she needed to know on the job. Thanks to her hard work, Carman’s has been named as one of BRW’s 100 Fastest-Growing Companies and won the 2012 Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year Award.
Carolyn is a mother of four and values having a balanced life when it comes to her family and career.
