Are you safe as an Airbnb host?

In our last interview in this Airbnb hosting series, Double Bay resident Primrose talks to Deborah about Airbnb security and how safe it is to be a host when sharing your home with guests.

Naturally, Primrose is concerned about her personal safety and is extremely cautious about who she accepts as guests.

As part of the Airbnb booking process, both hosts and guests are background checked and verified. At the end of the stay, everyone has the chance to write a review, keeping guests accountable for treating hosts and their homes with respect.

Once an inquiry is made, Primrose is able to see the guest’s profile, open lines of communication through the secure Airbnb site and ask for more information when she needs. This way, Primrose is able to discover a bit more about the prospective guest and their reasons for travel.

“You sort of feel you know them before they come,” said Primrose.

“I do not accept anybody until I’m satisfied,” she said.

In addition, Airbnb security measures include a number of insurances for hosts including:

  • $1M AUD Host Guarantee protects your home and your stuff from accidental damage. Every host with a listing on Airbnb is eligible for coverage at no additional cost.
  • Host Protection Insurance designed to protect you from liability in case your guests get hurt or cause property damage. It’s automatically included as part of as part of your Airbnb account.

So far, Airbnb hosting has been a wild success for Primrose and given her the chance to meet people from all over the world.

“It’s people you would never come across in normal life,” said Primrose.

The long-term plan for Primrose is to explore her love of travel and reconnect with former guests who may be hosts themselves in their hometown.
